Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

With over 140,000 issues, being read 99 million times on the magazine platform last year, Readly, the all-you-can-read app, has compiled a list of the most popular UK magazines by overseas readers.

The list shows that UK tech and gadgets magazines are very popular, followed by health, lifestyle, cooking and home interior.

The most read UK magazine titles from international readers are:

  1. What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision
  2. T3
  3. Stuff
  4. Women’s Health
  5. BBC Home Cooking Series
  6. HELLO!
  7. House Beautiful
  8. Real Homes
  9. BBC Good Food
  10. Red

Looking at the most read titles it’s not hard to guess that British food, gadget advice, celebrity and entertainment news are some of the things that Brits long for while being overseas. Recent lockdowns, that made it even more challenging to visit family and friends back home, have most likely increased the interest for British magazines.

While magazine titles give us a lot of insights into what Brits abroad are reading, we can dig deeper into what attracts and inspires people if we analyze the most read individual issues for different titles. A few covers and topics stand out more than others. Even if you live abroad it has been impossible to avoid the headlines that British Vogue made when putting singer Billie Eilish on the cover with a transformative look or when the American breakthrough star Dua Lipa was on the cover of British GQ 2020. These two covers have by far been the two most popular issues on the Readly platform during the last 1,5 years.

When the British monthly bible for better living through technology, T3 released their June issue featuring home upgrades and the best BBQs for summer, a swarm of overseas Readly users flocked to learn more.

Another gem that overseas readers can’t keep from reading is the British number 1 food magazine, BBC Good Food. The most read issue on the Readly platform is their January edition 2021. We can only guess that a lot of Good Food readers were looking for new food beginnings after the Christmas holidays.

The individual issues that have been read the most during the last year from people outside the UK:

  1. British GQ, May 2020
  2. Vogue, June 2021
  3. T3, June 2021
  4. Women’s Health, September 2021
  5. Stuff, January 2021
  6. What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision, Award special 2020
  7. BBC Home Cooking Series, OnePots 2021
  8. House Beautiful, December 2020
  9. WW Magazine (Weight Watchers reimagined), Special 2021
  10. BBC Good Food, January 2021
