Readly, the European leader in digital magazine subscriptions, is launching a new service to bring curated articles from publishers directly to its readers.
‘Readly Articles’ will provide readers with an alternative way to read content in the form of individual, stand-alone digital magazine features. TIME, Hearst, Future and Perry Publishing are a few of the publishers pioneering the service for subscribers.
Readly will extract and add a digital-first reading experience to featured articles, with articles presented in a carousel at the top of the user’s screen. Articles will be selected based on curation from Readly’s editorial team, highlighting to the reader articles of interest based on their profile and previous magazine reads.
Publishers will be paid according to the number of readers and dwell time on each individual article within the new Article feed, in much the same way as they are paid for readership of their magazines. The UK will be the first market to roll out Readly Articles with Readly’s other markets following over the coming year.
The move comes on the back of two other notable developments: Readly Exclusive, which is exclusive content made only available to Readly users; and Readly Ads, a sophisticated ad and data insight tool for publishers, which is currently only available in its home country of Sweden.
Readly’s move reflects a clear digital trend towards the consumption of individual articles rather than entire issues, a trend pioneered by Google News and Facebook Instant Articles. The new service is available for Readly subscribers on mobile immediately and will roll out on tablet over the coming months.
