To help you sort your calendar, we’ve picked out the must-attend publishing events in the UK and Europe for the next few months, from the mega-conferences to intimate insider events.

Predictions 2020

The Drum will be gazing into the crystal ball at its annual Predictions Breakfast, exploring disruptions in business, culture and technology. Although this isn’t specific to publishing, topics like the new consumer of the future and trends in the connected world are on the agenda, so there’s sure to be some relevant discussion.

Digital Trust Forum

London, UK

IAB UK is bringing its first Digital Trust Forum to London to kick off the new year, with an event aiming to tackle the biggest challenges facing the digital advertising industry. Whether it’s brand safety, ad fraud, fake news or ad blocking, there will be plenty here for publishers to learn from.

Making Publishing Pay 

25 – 26 February 2020
London, UK

Making Publishing Pay is a two-day summit from Mash Media, aiming to educate publishers on how to develop their business models in a practical manner. The agenda and speakers are particularly geared towards helping smaller and independent publishers take their businesses to the next level.

Publishing Summit Europe 

3 – 5 March 2020
Dubrovnik, Croatia

The theme of Digiday’s European summit this year is ‘balancing sustainable growth’, exploring how media owners across Europe are building products to monetise audiences, working to avoid the subscription churn spiral, and exploring what life without third-party cookies looks like.

Digital Innovator’s Summit

24 – 25 March 2020
Berlin, Germany

FIPP’s Digital Innovator’s Summit is a personal highlight for WNIP. It brings together senior executives from media businesses, technology innovators, social platforms and more to share ideas and discuss emerging trends. It’s a particularly good event for hearing from European publishing brands about the innovations in their businesses which haven’t necessarily made headlines but which are more valuable on a practical level.

Digital Media Europe

31 March – 1 April 2020
Vienna, Austria

WAN-IFRA’s annual digital media conference focuses on a number of different strands this year, from customer journey orchestration to the lessons we can learn about UX from outside publishing. It also has a Local Digital Subscription Summit running as a dedicated strand.

International Journalism Festival

1 – 5 April 2020
Perugia, Italy

The International Journalism Festival is a must-attend event for journalists and editors in publishing. Details for the 2020 programme will be released in February, but expect a packed agenda: last year, the festival had 289 sessions and 631 speakers!

INMA Media Conference

27 – 28 April 2020
Paris, France

The International News Media Association’s Media Conference is an ‘intense two-day focus on strategy and trends from the world’s top news media companies’. More details on the full agenda and speakers will be released soon, but it’s worth noting that the conference is preceeded by a Print Innovation Workshop on 26th April, for those publishers with print titles.

IPG Spring Conference 2020

28 – 30 April 2020
Enstone, UK

The Independent Publishers Guild Spring Conference is designed for independent publishers of all shapes and sizes, with case studies, training and networking. They have yet to release their agenda, but previous years have focused on managing growth, better sales through data, and the practical application of analytics.

Media360

6 – 7 May 2020
Brighton, UK

Campaign’s Media360 event brings together brands, media agencies, media owners and technology companies to discuss how to power growth in the face of disruption. Key themes on the 2020 agenda include preparing for a cookie-less future, sustainable business models, and what we can learn in the age of ecommerce and streaming.

PPA Festival 2020

The PPA’s annual Festival is one of the largest gatherings of magazine and business media publishers in Europe. They have yet to release details for 2020, but last year’s festival covered everything from direct and digital marketing, to events, advertising, editorial and more.

17 -19 June 2020
Zaragoza, Spain

WAN-IFRA’s 72nd World News Media Congress is appropriately themed ‘Paths to the Future’. It combines three streams: the World Digital Revenue Forum, the World Editors Forum and the Women in News Summit, and already has an impressive list of speakers in place.
